Hello and welcome to another edition of everyone’s favorite Kinja based collection of cute animal pictures, Fur Face Friday! I’m your host, Chuckles, and before we get to the Fur Faces I have a very important announcement:

WE ARE STILL HIRING AT SNOUT SELECTOR HQ!

We’re looking for a few people to join our team of snout selectors, either for a single week guest post, or on a more permanent basis. The pay is lousy but the perks are outstanding! Your own reserved parking spot, free pinball, and a free continental breakfast are just some of the reasons to join our team.

If you’d like to try it out for a week, or if you want to become a regular snout selector, please just tell us in the comments below!

In case you’re new (in which case, welcome!): Favorites are chosen by one of the Snout Selectors (KrabbyPaddy, facw, Xyl0c41n3, Chuckles, CBG, or you! ), entirely on our own whimsy. WHIMSY. However, in the interest of solidarity, we try to select one dog picture and one cat picture (minimum!) each week. Other pets will also, of course, be considered. We love all your rats, bunnies, ferrets and other furry, feathery & finny pals. WE WILL NEVER DISCRIMINATE AGAINST CUTE. As always, we’re happy to dismiss any pictures if you decide you want them taken down at some point.

If you don’t have a pet of your own to feature this week, I highly recommend featuring and linking to any cuties who are available for adoption and looking for a home on any shelter or rescue site. I know I’m not the only one lurking on Petfinder!

In that sharing spirit, if you don’t have a pet but want to participate, drop off your best Internet find of an animal gif or meme or tweet in the comments. He’s old enough to get a driver’s license and has floof for days. Do not adjust your screen. He really is upside down.

No pictures, but a quick story—

Around 6:00pm yesterday Child yelled up the stairs, “[Neighbor] and Nellie are at the door for something! ” and then disappeared. As Child will.

I came down and Nellie was sitting in alert attendance on Neighbor.

( Neighbor is leaving on vacation and had brought over a nice selection of vegetables they weren’t going to have time to use, and which Spouse and I had as a salad for dinner last night).

I’m not usually able to post anything on Fridays, but I’m on vacation this week, so I can participate! Kia and I went to Prince Edward County (Ontario) last weekend, and I have some new pics of her;

She will always be a sturdy little dog, but she is down to 48.5 lbs from 70 lbs at this time last year, when she was surrendered to a rescue group.

Mr Max is officially in his twilight stage. Here he is before and after last week’s haircut, doing what he does all day: sleep in his n est of blankies. His coordination is starting to slip , h e’s develo ped a cataract, and some days he doesn’t have the energy to get out of bed much at all...but he still makes it to the kitchen for his supper, and goes outside by himself. Slowly, but on his own four legs. He’s four months away from his 17th birthday, and every day feels like a tremendous gift right now.

It was a toss up between a frenchie and a mastiff. My wife wanted the mastiff, I picked the boxer so she got final cut on this one. We just had a (human) baby so maybe in a year or so we can tack on another fur child

Enzo was laying at the foot of the bed while I was lounging around this morning. All of a sudden I heard frantic scratching noises. Turned around and he wasn’t on the bed. Looked over the edge and realized he had rolled himself off the bed by accident. He still had the claw of one paw stuck in the blanket. He was not happy that I was laughing, or that I paused to take a photo before helping him. Lolol. Don’t worry, he was okay. He hopped back up a few minutes later and demanded a few well deserved scritches.

Thanks; it has meant getting up quite a bit earlier and going for longer walks in the morning, and in the evening when I might be tired, but she is so much healthier. This coming week I’ll be scaling back because of the heat, but she’s about 6 lbs from her ideal weight, and although it would be nice to get there, I don’t think there’s any rush.

In Diane Duane’s novel “Book of night with moon”, about cat wizards, cats (not just wizard cats, but all cats), play a game called “hauwish”, the winner of which is the cat that has the best vantage point without being seen themselves. That basically is the game. I would say Snowball is best player of your three.

I’ve managed to make all my rescued street cats into house cats exclusively , including a feral boy (which took some doing) . Saved some bird lives.

There a few things funn ier than seeing a Totally Dignified Cat do a graceful, elegant stretch ... and then realise they are too close to the edge of the bed and roll off with a thud.

The ‘I meant to do that’ recovery leap back up is just one more slapstick punchline.

Ohhhh Mr Max! Good ol’ doggie galoot. We have two inc redibly nice neighbours who have a very old doggo too - when they take him/her for walkies they wheel a baby carriage behind; I’ve seen the dog walk slowly along and then sometimes just stop and lean against a building like ‘I ... can’t keep going’, and the humans gently pick him up, place him in the carriage, and wheel him along as he looks around happily.

I read somewhere (the notorious Somewhere) that cats tend to follow/pile on allergic folk because folks who want to pet/be near the kitties are all in their face and alarm them a bit. So they gravitate to the nice calm person at the other end of the room who isn’t reaching out at them and making strange oooing noises.
